Avoca: Bringing AI to the backbone of the real economy

April 27, 2026

Much of the recent conversation around AI has focused on knowledge work, whether it’s writing code, analyzing data, or assisting with back office efficiency. However, there is another part of the economy, far larger and far less digitized, that has been largely overlooked: the businesses that keep the physical world running.

HVAC companies, plumbers, electricians, and other service providers power our homes, infrastructure, and local economies. Yet many of these essential businesses still rely on manual workflows and overburdened office staff to operate day to day. They operate in incredibly high-demand environments, and when that demand exceeds what their teams can handle, calls go unanswered and money gets left on the table.

Avoca is building an AI workforce for service businesses, starting with voice agents that answer calls, book jobs, and capture demand that would otherwise be lost. Avoca integrates into the systems these businesses already use, helping them grow revenue while managing operations.

I first met Tyson and Apurva at MIT, and the KP team and I have gotten to know them both over poker games & strategy discussions. Avoca has also assembled a special team whose customer obsession and execution abilities are creating mission-critical products for a huge industry.

Customer support automation for home services alone represents tens of billions in spend. The businesses that maintain homes and infrastructure represent trillions in economic activity. Incredibly, almost none of it has been touched by software.

What makes Avoca especially compelling is how immediate the impact is. The ROI upon trying Avoca is extremely clear and verifiable shortly after first use. Many customers are already seeing this in practice. One electrical services company relied entirely on Avoca during Hurricane Helene, when outages prevented their team from answering calls. Others are using Avoca to capture after-hours demand and follow up on inbound leads in real time, turning what used to be missed opportunities into meaningful revenue.

We led Avoca’s Series A because we believe they are building core infrastructure for a massive segment of the economy that has historically been overlooked by Silicon Valley.

Today, Avoca is emerging from stealth with backing across its Seed, Series A, and Series B rounds, reflecting both the strength of the team and the scale of the opportunity before them. As AI reshapes industries, we believe companies like Avoca will help bring that transformation to the businesses that keep the world running.

We’re excited to partner with them on that journey!
